ABOUT SHIVANI
Hi, I’m Shivani!
I’m an actor/singer/dancer/creative based in NYC/NJ.
I began my performing journey at 3 years old dancing nonstop to Bollywood songs in my living room. I soon became fascinated by not only the moves, but the music itself and the artistic portrayal of emotion involved in every project. I found my way to classical Kathak dancing, acting, and singing shortly after!
While pursuing my degree in Economics at Princeton University, I dedicate myself to creating impactful art through the intersection of academia and performance. On campus, I love performing as a member of the Fuzzy Dice improv group, DiSiac dance company, and Princeton Pictures short film society. I’ve also loved taking classes like “How to Write a Song” taught by Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive) and “Baby Wants Candy: Comedy Writing for Television” taught by Al Samuels and Carter Bays.
I had the privilege of interning at the Paley Center for Media as a Peter Roth Intern in the department of Public Programming. Learning from inspiring creatives like Ava Duvernay and Betsy Beers and pitching an original sitcom during my time there, I have since strengthened my passion for television production and writing and look forward to pursuing those alongside my on-camera work.
My favorite roles include those that promote diversity and inclusion in the media. It was an honor to model for a Bed Bath and Beyond national print advertisement campaign featuring a South Asian family. I am also grateful to have voiced “Princess Devika” and “Princess Avani” on Disney Junior’s Mira, Royal Detective, featuring an all-South Asian cast.
When I’m not on stage, you can typically find me dancing in an NYC workshop (shoutout South Asian NYC dance family), writing an essay about my favorite show at 2 AM, watching entirely too much SNL in one sitting, or searching for my new favorite cafe to performatively write scripts while sipping on an iced lavender matcha!
